Updated: 10/10/12.
It is now almost a year since I started this project, and there are still no visible signs that the city of Loudon has taken any action as far as correcting their traffic light problems! They won't even replace the two incorrect intersection sign in front of Food City (click on page above for picture) that has been there for close to four years. These two signs would cost less than $100. Lynn Mills the city manager calls this intersection "a safety problem" and wants to spend over $30,000 on a new traffic light, that will undoubtedly be maintain at the same low standards as the others.
Is this how you would like to have your hard earned tax dollars to be spent?
Here is a partial list of problems:
* Intersection of US 11 and State Route 72, operating on its timer 24-7. The traffic count for this intersection is approx. 20,000!
Some of these road sensors were replaced about 10-12 years ago, how long they lasted is anybodies guess.
* Intersection of Highland Ave and US 11, has been operating on its timer 24-7 for over 18 months, unknown cause.
* Intersection of Ward St. and US 11, outdated, no road sensors, it on its a timer 24-7.
There was a fatal accident there several years ago, but I do not know if the outdated traffic light was to blame.
My name is Rolf Randby, I have been a resident of Loudon City Tn. for well over 20 years.
As you can see I am not a happy about the City of Loudon trying to spend my tax money on a new light,
in front of Food City, without first getting what they have repaired and up to current code.
For many years, I have from time to time tried to get the city "fathers" to fix the traffic light on US 11
and State Route 72, with no visible results, but no lack of stupid excuses. For years they blamed TDOT,
when they were all along the only one responsible. I checked with TDOT and confronted them with the
information so then they changed their story.
